Mansfield

  Mansfield UMC
The community of Mansfield was named for Mansfield McWhorter. In 1905 he sold the land the church is now on to the Trustees of the Philippi Circuit for a price of $75. In 1924 the Barbour County Board of Education sold the one-room Mansfield School to the Philippi Circuit for $150. The building was put on logs and rolled from the school location to the church site. The Parsonage and lot were purchased in 1913 for Olie and John Baker.
July 26, 1958 a groundbreaking ceremony for the education Unit - the Sunday School rooms and the dining room and kitchen - was held. The worship service and Sunday School opening were still held in the one-room church.  The Sunday School classes would go over to the new building for classes. In September 1968, Rev Paul Crawford preached the last sermon in the old church.
Construction started in the summer of 1969 for a new sanctuary and the first service was held on March 22, 1970.
