Elk City

The first Methodist church in the Elk City area was housed in a log structure. During the 1860's a frame church building was erected. Soon after, it was destroyed by fire.  In 1872 the present church was built. A deed was made for 3/4 acre of ground between John and Harriet Hall and the Elk City Class of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South "for the consideration of the sum of one dollar in hand". The church was known as the Hall Church for many years. Later the name was changed to Elk City Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In 1924 a bell tower was constructed and a bell installed.
During the years since, many changes have been made and in 1963 the E.U.B. Churches and Methodist churches merged into the United Methodist Church and we became part of the Mansfield Charge.
